Seume Video Wins KC AIGA Award

David Seume’s “Will Ya Be My Friend” music video made by DJG and Philip Cheaney has been honored with a 2010 A6 design award by the Kansas City chapter of AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts). Out of almost 500 submissions, only 87 made the cut!

Continued Kindness…

A DJG poster for Regina Spektor’s 2006 Madrid show in Kansas City, MO (cropped above) received some kind words recently via the blog world in which we live in. It’s fascinating and flattering how more people are seeing the work on the internet…and after the fact. Enjoy! Thanks to those finding DJG out here!

DJG in the UK

Above Postcards by: DJG, US / Photographed by: Emily Chandler, UK

If the title of this news entry were only true…well, it partly is! Several hundred DJG postcard/mail art pieces have been traveling the United States for the past few years. Now, the art is making it’s way to the UK for a mail art show!

An email came in confirming the landing of some of the postcards in the UK: “I received 2 things from you yesterday! (one with googly eye and one on cardboard) I’ll take a picture of them all together for you when/if more arrive! One of them handed over directly by the post man – he was very impressed!”

Seven art cards were mailed out as-is and an envelope of 13 more was also sent for the exhibition at Cut-Click. More information can be found on their website. The exhibit is curated by Emily of Magpie Market. Check ‘em out!

Update: 08-02-2010

Art for “Songs From The Howling Sea”

Above Art by: DJG / 2009

Late last year DJG was commissioned to make artwork for a blog by a member of Outfit Faux, a Perth, Australia-to-London, England band that came knocking a few years back for a CD package and identity work. The blog is called “Songs From The Howling Sea” and has officially launched this week. Here is a synopsis of the project per Ruairidh Anderson:

“In  a moment of divine inspiration I decided that I would start a project. 52 songs  over 52 weeks, written, recorded and released every 7 days from May 24th 2010. Now this has been done before so i’ve given it a twist..All songs are based on characters and events from London’s Old East End and all songs will be preceeded by a video created by my good self,  providing some background on just what I’m going on about. All work is free to download and distribute as you see fit and all songs are written, produced and played by Ruairidh Anderson”

Pretty cool stuff and there is nothing wrong with a work horse!

(Special Thanks to R.A.!)

Tape Show

“Re-Charge at Battery Park” (Detail) Drawn & Shot by: DJG / May 2010

On June 26, 2010, DJG will have twenty 8.5″ x 11″ drawings on display, that form one big piece of art when placed together (see detail above), in a group exhibition titled “Tape Show”. The show is at The Emerald Space, located at 1323 Union Ave. in Kansas City, MO. Each artist in the show will have executed work in pen and ink on letter-sized paper with the inspiration of “So many things in life stress us out…this is just a break.” The works will simply be taped to the wall, hence the name “Tape Show”! There will also be a “Tape Show” book made, so more to come!

(Special Thanks to the Tape Show!)

DJG Stuff for Sale

For nearly a decade, people have been asking for easy access to DJG art prints as things are kept pretty tight here. Though, with a new site on the way later this year, there is hope for a special store featuring the selling of originals and hard-to-gets. But, for right now a selection of over 130 various DJG art and photography prints are available over at Imagekind! You can kinda play printer as well in choosing paper stock and size…even canvases, greeting cards and frames. Neat-o! And more art is to come!

If looking for concert posters, they are not specifically offered at the DJG Imagekind site as they, A: are dwindling in stock…B: because they’re specially printed in small batches from their point, time and destination…C: call on DJG if you’d like more information or are interesting in nabbing one or more (djg@djgdesign.com). Though, you may find artwork that was used on a poster, like the image(s) above!

Thanks for your continued support.
