DJG Pleads for Thieves to Return Cherished Art
MORTIMER was STOLEN! Friday, December 10, 2004 during the Dandercroft showcase at The Brick in Kansas City, MO.

Due to a foolish, immoral and cowardice act, one of my most cherished works of original art can no longer be enjoyed. Not only have I been violated and disrespected, but also The Brick and it’s patrons. I guess somebody must really love my Mortimer (or really dislike me). If you would have simply expressed your liking in person I would have happily given you a copy after my show is over. I had plans to duplicate this piece in the new year due to it’s popularity and personal attachment. How I wish some sort of copy had been made before now! That is correct, IT IS MY ONLY COPY!
What you have taken can’t be duplicated or replaced. Mortimer is one of the few things ever to come out of me that I am completely satisfied with. This is more than just a piece of art. If you had any idea what this drawing means to me it would not be in your possession. What you have done warrants no excuse.
As an independent artist /designer I do not possess much in monetary value. All that I’ve got is my work and what I get from it, and in-turn the ability/want to give something to the community. To me this is an invaluable experience and these original pieces are my personal fortune. There is a sentimental value on them and if others can get something from a particular work as well, then I know I have made something complete. Mortimer fits this mold exactly. He is something I had planned on growing old with and passing down my family line someday. This is very important to me.
If you really love my work you would respect me and bring Mortimer back. I would gladly exchange him for a large stack of my posters. Please do what is right and all will be forgiven.
Please contact me or the Brick if you have information on the night of December 10th or if you know the perpitrator(s)…or if you simply are the perpitrator(s).
Thank You,
-Danny J Gibson, DJG Design

PS: Mortimer is a sweet, precious, young and abnormal water bison. He is sitting on the ground upright, looking down and with one arm gently curled behind his back. For his age, a very mature expression is conveyed on his long face. He has just come to realize the full extent of his handicap and is having difficulty adjusting. But, he is a very patient and determined boy and knows that he has a place in the world. MortimerĂ•s markings are loose and aggressive scrawls in red ink from a busted pen…on plain paper.
