Blizzard and B-Lizard in Kansas City

2

Photography by:  DJG / KCMOUSA / Dec. 2009

This Winter season so far, Kansas City, MO  USA has been dumped on by the Old Man! DJG took advantage of some sunshine mixed with a yard of snow and a couple of hours, giving birth to a B-Lizard. Enjoy!

It looks to be a good, long winter, one like the good ol’ days…and more snow scheduled to arrive later this week! Let’s just hope the good ol’ knees keep up!

For a refresher… 2007 / 2008 /2009

And Kansas City’s Pitch posted B-Lizard on their blog!

DJG on Mehallo on DJG

Mehallo DeskboyMehallo Blog

Last week DJG received a nice plot of love-land on The Mehallo Blog. For those uneducated, Steve Mehallo educates graphic minds as a professor of design at The Art Institute of California in Sacramento, CA. Mehallo is also a known “freelance design professional, illustrator, font designer, educator, foodie and gadfly.”

In 2006, Mehallo invited DJG as part of a successful group design exhibition called “Spoken With Eyes”. In early 2007, DJG was invited back to exhibit solo at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center in a show titled “DJG at the Last Minute”.

(Special Thanks to Steve Mehallo!)

DJG’s “Bad Lieutenant” Poster

DJG entered a poster design contest for director Werner Herzog’s new movie “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans” starring Nicolas Cage. Being a big Herzog fan, DJG found it fun to enter something like this and to try something new in the art department.

DannyJGibson

It wasn’t picked as a top winner, but DJG is honored to have the poster showcased among many other poster entries halfway down the page at veteran movie site Ain’t It Cool News. Along with such “Not what was in mind, but I’ll take it!” colorful commentary like, “Danny J. Gibson’s entry feels like a Criterion cover of a Wes Anderson movie.” Awesome! (Special Thanks to Quint and Ain’t It Cool News and to Werner Herzog, of course!) -djg

PS: See DJG’s poster bigger!

25 Deastro Posters

Deastrogig07

Deastro is a very prolific and DIY musical project/prodigy founded and fronted by Detroit, MI native Randolph Chabot. DJG is a fan of the music Chabot is producing and also inspired by his out-put and all-around artistic endeavors. To honor this, DJG made 25 posters for the November 20, 2009 Deastro concert at Czar Bar in Kansas City, MO. Started as a series of self-portraits titled “Reflections at the Mouth of the Beast”, DJG figured they would adapt well for show posters.

Unfortunately, poster printing resources are dead at the moment, but there have been some little prints popping up. Supporting the show are two Max’s. One is London, UK’s Max Tundra and the other is Kansas City’s Max Justus. It can be safe to say that Czar Bar might be maxed out that night (in more ways than one), so you better get there early. (Special Thanks to Billy Smith and Nathan Reusch!) -djg

PS: In related news, DJG will be showing (selling some) the original self-portraits at a venue soon to be announced in Kansas City, MO.
